Suitcase or Backpack?

I've been weighing the pros and cons to taking either a small travel suitcase with me or a large travel backpack. One makes me feel like a tourist. The other makes me feel like a young tourist. Thoughts? For some reason I am leaning towards suitcase but I want to hear what my friends think.

    Backpack, with a detachable smaller backpack all the way!

    Backpack - yes, it's so "young American traveler" of you, but it's immensely easier to maneuver through train stations, across cobblestones and in hostels. Plus it fits in a carryon. I actually still use my Europe backpack as my regular suitcase, it's just easier.

    Hey Ann! When Jon and I went to Costa Rica, I bought a backpacking-backpack, and I think it was way more convenient than having a suitcase to lug around. Said backpack is sitting in a chest, unused, in our house, so if you want to borrow it let me know! :) Shannon
